New Minimum Wage Poster Requirements

By Barb Garrison, M.S., CHMM, CET

Have you been approached by companies trying to sell you posters that they say you are required to post in your workplace, including the new minimum wage poster? Confused about whether you really need them and whether the ones you have are up-to-date? Maybe we can help clarify things for you.

Note: The only posters that have changed within the past three years are those found in Step 2. So, if you already have the other posters, you do not need to request new ones. Also, be aware that the Federal minimum wage will likely be changing in the next two years so you will eventually need a new Federal Minimum Wage poster. We'll let you know when it is available.

Step 1:
Call the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Department at 1-866-487-9243. They will send you these five FREE posters:
* OSHA poster
* Federal Minimum Wage poster
* Equal Employment Opportunity poster
* Family and Medical Leave Act poster
* Employee Polygraph Protection Act poster

Step 2:
Download these two FREE posters from the Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Labor website:
* Minor Labor Law poster http://198.234.41.198/w3/webwh.nsf/Files/MLLPoster.pdf/$FILE/MLLPoster.pdf
* Minimum Wage poster http://198.234.41.198/w3/webwh.nsf/Files/MWPoster.pdf/$FILE/MWPoster.pdf

Step 3:
Call the Ohio Civil Rights Commission at 1-888-278-7101 and request a FREE copy of the Fair Employment Practices poster.

Step 4:
Go to www.odjfs.state.oh.us/forms/pdf/55341.pdf and print the FREE Notice to Employees poster that is from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Step 5:
Check to make sure you have your current Bureau of Workers' Compensation Certificate of Premium Payment posted.
